Team Tornadoes - VOCABULARY SCHEDULE

Listed below is the homework for each two-week unit of vocabulary.

Pacing is important so that children are prepared for the final test and studying each night is suggested.

 

Use highlighters and highlight words according to the following:

nouns-BLUE verbs-GREEN adjectives-PINK adverbs-ORANGE

 

Week 1

Monday – if possible, time is given in class to work on this assignment

Study Cards – 20 total points for parts 1 and 2 – due Wednesday

• Study Cards (index cards) - Part 1

o Write vocabulary word on front of index card

o Use highlighter and color code vocab word by part of speech

(if more than one part of speech, rewrite the word several times)

o Spell in syllables

o Show stress marks

o Draw a picture or symbol of the word to help you remember

 

• Study Cards (index cards) - Part 2

o Write all definitions for the vocab word

o Write all Synonyms and Antonyms for the word

o Use highlighter and color code by part of speech (definitions, synonyms and antonyms)

 

• Book Work - Color code words, synonyms and antonyms by parts of speech

2 points – due Wednesday

 

BRING STUDY CARDS TO CLASS EVERY DAY!!!

 

 

Wednesday – 4 points (2 pts. each assignment) – due Friday

· Play Bingo in class – learn pronunciation of words - make sure you have your cards or you can't play!

· Choosing the Right Word (CTRW) - in vocabulary book

· Synonyms and Antonyms (SYN/ANT) - in vocabulary book

 

 

Friday – 2 points per side (if 2-sided) – HW is collected on Monday

· Teacher’s Choice of homework (optional)

· Study your Vocab cards over the weekend

 

 

Week 2

 

Monday – 4 points (2 pts. each assignment) – due Wednesday

· Completing the Sentence (CTS)

· Vocabulary in Context (VIC)

 

 

Wednesday – Homework is collected on Friday (2 points per side)

· Teacher’s Choice – may include the following:

crossword puzzle

word search

scrambled letter

paragraph

sentences

mini-vocab projects (worth more than 2 points)

 

 

Thursday

· Review for test - Play Bingo in Class

· Study for test!!!

 

 

Friday – TEST!!! (50 points)

 

Things to Remember!

 

Vocabulary assignments and the test points are a MAJOR part of the Language Arts grade on the report card. There is a possibility of 84 points or more to be earned over a two week period. Please be sure to take these assignments seriously.

 

It’s okay to work ahead on the current unit assignments we are working on in class. But, please do not work on other units in the book; this will confuse you.
